With a design this intricate, attention to detail and precise layout were everything - ensuring the pattern flows naturally through each space and complements the architecture throughout the home.

Custom walnut thresholds were crafted to tie the flooring into the other bespoke elements of the build, creating a considered transition between materials.

TBT — Castlecrag, Sydney 🏡

Throwback to one of our favourite staircase projects — the “wedding cake” staircase in Castlecrag.

The sweeping wedding-cake stairs were sculpted entirely from straight engineered European Oak flooring, using two custom-made formats — 220mm and 189mm wide — to create those flowing curved forms.

The open-riser staircase required another approach, using substantial 400mm and 220mm wide engineered boards to achieve the clean, solid proportions of the treads.📐✏️

All flooring was specially produced in Prime Grade European Oak, keeping knots and natural features to a minimum for the clean, refined look the architecture called for.🌳

Turning straight engineered flooring into those curves took some serious planning, precision and craftsmanship — and remains one of our standout staircase projects.

Restoring character while delivering a seamless finish. 🤎

For this beautiful Centennial Park residence, Know-How Flooring was entrusted with replacing worn flooring across multiple areas of the home before bringing the entire floor back together as one.

The project required the careful integration of two Australian hardwood species—Grey Iron Bark and Blackbutt—installed in different board widths and thicknesses to suit the existing construction. Once all replacement works were complete, we re-sanded and custom stained the flooring throughout the entire home, creating a cohesive finish that respected the home`s original character while ensuring the old and new flooring blended seamlessly.

Every detail in a home should have a purpose.

For this Balmain renovation, Know-How Flooring was entrusted with the complete timber flooring package—from meticulous subfloor preparation through to the supply, installation, and sand & polish of Select Grade 80mm solid NSW Spotted Gum.

Finished in a clear extra matte coating, the floor celebrates the natural warmth and variation of this iconic Australian hardwood while maintaining a clean, understated aesthetic.

A subtle design feature throughout the ground floor is the change in board direction at each wall, thoughtfully defining individual spaces while maintaining a seamless flow through the home. It`s a small detail that adds another layer of architectural intent to the finished result.

Throwback to one of our proudest projects. ✨

Some projects leave a lasting impression—not just because of how they look, but because of what goes into getting them there.

This was a few hundred square metres of premium timber flooring paired with three custom prefinished staircases, requiring meticulous planning and coordination from the earliest stages of construction.

Long before the flooring was installed, we set finished floor level benchmarks across all three storeys to ensure every transition, every stair and every detail aligned perfectly. It’s the kind of work that often goes unnoticed, but it’s what allows the final result to look effortless.

From comprehensive subfloor preparation through to the installation of the timber flooring and award-winning staircases, every aspect of this project was completed with precision and craftsmanship.

We’re incredibly proud that these stairs were recognised with the 2025 ATFA Australasia Award for Prefinished Stairs—a reflection of the collaboration, planning and attention to detail that went into every stage of the build.

This Balgowlah home was brought back to life with a complete refurbishment of its existing 180mm Standard & Better grade Coastal Blackbutt flooring.

After careful preparation and sanding, we applied a premium 3-coat extra matte water-based polyurethane system, delivering exceptional durability while enhancing the natural character and colour variation of this beautiful Australian hardwood.

The result is a floor that looks brand new while preserving the character that only genuine Blackbutt can offer.

The project includes two staircases, one of which features curved winders shaped against a microcement wall that also acts as the balustrade, creating a smooth, sculptural outcome.🙌🏻

This stunning black engineered oak flooring was supplied and installed by Know-How Flooring.

The main staircase was cladded in solid prime grade Glacial Oak, custom-stained and finished onsite with two coats of water-based polyurethane matte — giving it that perfect blend of durability and elegance.

Mosman project🏡

We recently completed the installation of traditional dark brown herringbone parquetry in this beautifully built Hamptons-style home in Mosman. The deep tones of the flooring add warmth and contrast, perfectly complementing the crisp detailing and soft palette throughout the interiors.

A huge shoutout to Will, Greg, Ryan and the team at @tass_au — the quality of execution across the entire build is second to none. No shortcuts were taken, and it truly shows in every corner of this home.

Milsons Point project🏡

We had the pleasure of installing these stunning 260x15mm light-coloured engineered Oak floors in a beautifully appointed Milsons Point apartment — and the results speak for themselves. The soft tones of the timber flooring seamlessly complement the sophisticated finishes, abundant natural light, and clean architectural lines of the space, adding warmth and understated elegance.

This project came with its fair share of challenges — including the full replacement of the subfloor and installation of an acoustic underlay system — but the outcome was more than worth it.

This recycled solid Blackbutt floor came to us hidden under a dark brown, almost black stain. Our client’s vision? Bring it back to its natural beauty—with just a touch of provincial charm.

After a full sand and careful refurb by the Know-How Flooring team, the rich golden tones and grain of the timber are finally breathing again, perfectly balanced with a soft, timeless finish.
