Rose Gum
Rose gum (Eucalyptus grandis) is a large, fast growing hardwood timber. It grows on the eastern coast of Australia, stretching from Newcastle in New South Wales to Bundaberg in southern Queensland.
Description
Rose gum is grown in plantations in Queensland and New South Wales, making the sawn timber of this sought after species readily available. It isn’t as hard as many other gum species with a Janka hardness rating of 7.5. Meaning it can be easier to work.
As its name suggests, rose gum has heartwood that is pink to red-brown in colour, with paler sapwood. The timber can be moderately course and is predominantly straight grained.
